As we strive to provide seamless services to our customers in these uncommon times, a hidden enemy is lurking on the internet, waiting for an unsuspecting person to click the wrong website or link. Frauds and cyber attacks have exploded, yet they are rarely making the news, so our customers are not prepared. From counterfeit Stimulus check scams to new ransomware and viruses hidden in popular educational websites, fraudsters are everywhere, hitting our unsuspecting customers with devastating consequences.

This course covers the hot issues from both the fraud and cyber worlds, arming banks with real examples, resources, and tips for helping our customers during these tremulous times. We will also examine investigation strategies and proper return or chargeback procedures as appropriate.

Topics include (actual topics will be decided closer to event date so course is as current and relevant as possible):
  • Customers attempting to recover debit and credit card losses through bank (i.e. cancelled travel plans due to pandemic / hotel closures, "test kits," "cures," etc.)
  • Stimulus frauds (counterfeit checks, "overpayments," calls from "IRS" demanding immediate tax payments via prepaid cards, etc.)
  • Cyber scams and attacks including phishing themes, ransomware, increase in viruses and delivery methods, scams for sale (super cheap), primary targets (elderly and work from home), etc.
  • How fraudsters are feeding on people's anxiety and fear to carry out fraud
  • How banks are leading the fight against these frauds
  • Investigation strategies
  • Resources
Takeaway: Course includes an article written by our presenter that you can use to help educate customers about scams and frauds. The article, "Beyond the Virus: Scammers Want Your Money!" includes resources for customers and the bank. Banks can use any part of the article and can brand it.

This informative session is appropriate for any bank employee.
